The Samaritans' latest figures show that the charity answered a phone call every single minute in the last year.
The freephone service has answered more than one million calls since it was set up in March 2014.
"A symptom of its own success" is how the Minister of State for Mental Health, Kathleen Lynch, described the latest figures from the Samaritans.
The service has seen a 30% increase in the number of calls over the past year.
It shows that many people in Ireland are still struggling and need a place to turn to for support, according to Samaritans executive director Catherine Brogan.
Colm Kelly from the MoJo listening project says that people have started to open up more about their mental health, but that men in particular need to talk more.
Mr Kelly said: "Guys aren't that great at talking, they need somewhere safe to talk.
"We've been brought up for generations to say you are the strong, silent type, you're not allowed to show your weakness.
"You need to show your weakness, because that is a strength in itself, to be able to admit that you do have a weakness and you do need help.
"Once you have that, that's a fantastic strength."
The Samaritans freephone line is available around the clock, 365 days a year, and can be contacted on 116123.
