Treats make up one fifth of the calorie intake of the average child in Ireland, according to an expert at Safefood.

Doctor Cliodhna Foley-Nolan says seven out of 10 Irish children are eating treats at least once a day.

It comes amid concern about recent figures showing a quarter of three-year-olds in this country are overweight or obese.
