Operation Slow Down - an intensive speed enforecement initiative - is now in place across the country's roads.
The garda-led operation began at 7am this morning and will continue until 7am tomorrow.
It is hoped the initiative will remind drivers of the dangers of speeding and encourage them to comply with speed limits.
Chief Superintendent Mark Curran from the Garda National Traffic Bureau said gardaí will be out in force.
"We will be using all available technologies (including) robot vans and lasers…in a high-visibility campaign," he said.
The gardaí will be working across primary and secondary roads and in traffic black spots, or "collision zones".
