A serious road collision, involving a female 18-year-old pedestrian and a car, occurred in Co Mayo today.

A serious road collision, involving a female 18-year-old pedestrian and a car, occurred in Co Mayo today.

The pedestrian was seriously injured and taken to Mayo General Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

The female 83-year-old driver and a young male passenger were also taken to hospital but more as a precaution as no injuries were reported.

The collision occurred on the Castlebar to Claremorris Road (N60) at approximately 5pm today.

The road was closed to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination but has since since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact Castlebar Garda station on 094 9038200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
