Rising costs push up Diageo beer prices

Diageo is to raise the price of its beers at the end of the month.

Publicans have received letters from the brewer Diageo saying the price is going up by five cents.

Diageo has blamed the hike on soaring costs with barley prices up 105% in the last three years and energy costs up 102%.

The increase will come into effect on October 30 and will hit draught Budweiser, Carlsberg and Smithwicks as well as Guinness.

It will also apply to canned and bottled beers sold in pubs and shops.
