Rescue operation underway in Donegal after climber becomes stranded

A rescue operation is underway to bring a climber to safety from the cliffs of Slieve League in Co Donegal this evening.

The 28-year-old man is understood to have injured his knee while climbing there, this afternoon.

Rescue units from the Killybegs and Sligo Coast Guard are assisting the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team with their efforts.

The Sligo-based rescue helicopter was alerted earlier but due to the poor weather conditions it was unable to airlift the man from the ledge on the cliff face.

The Arranmore Lifeboat is also en route to the scene this evening.
