Report into penalty-point cancellations due later

The findings of a report into the quashing of penalty points by gardaí will be published today - but it will not name those who have had points removed.

It has been claimed that those who had their points quashed included a judge, a journalist and an international sports star.

The allegations were made after a whistleblower within the Gardaí leaked information from the garda PULSE system.

The review - conducted by the Assistant Garda Commissioner - was ordered following claims that cancellation of penalty points for individuals was widespread in the Garda Siochána.

The report into the matter is expected to reveal that a number of gardaí failed to follow guidelines for the removal of penalty points.
