Reilly: Savita report delayed by 'legal issues'

The Minister for Health James Reilly has said there are legal issues delaying the publication of the report into the death of Savita Halappanavar.

31-year-old Savita died from an infection at Galway University Hospital last October, after she presented at the hospital while miscarrying her baby.

Her husband Praveen said she was denied an abortion.

Minister Reilly said the report should have been with him by now and said Praveen Halappanavar will be given time to see it before it is published.

He said: "I have to say I would have expected it by now, but there have been issues around it, legal issues.

"I do not want this delay. In the first instance, the minute I get it I want Mr Halappanavar to get it as well and I would like that he would make any observations on it before we publish it."
