The Children's Minister has said the marriage referendum is an equality issue and does not impinge on the rights of parents.

Minister Reilly added the issues dealt with in the Family and relationships bill are separate to the referendum issues.

“This Bill is now passed and will be enacted regardless of the outcome of the referendum,” said Reilly.

“The Government is very clear about that and committed to supporting the referendum to make sure it goes through.”
