Rehab should pay public rates, Reilly says - but can't be forced
The Minister for Health, James Reilly, has admitted that Rehab cannot be forced to live by public pay policy – but said the government expects organisations receiving major public funding to pay staff at similar rates to public servants.
The Dáil's Public Accounts Committee has this morning agreed to hold a hearing with Rehab "in the next fortnight" to discuss pay and funding issues.
Minister Reilly is ruling out an independent inquiry into charity pay, but is promising full transparency.
"We will pursue this to the end. The idea of a necessity for an independent inquiry where the HSE are very clearly fully in control of what's happening here and brining all these matters to light.
"[That] will continue until we reach the end we all wish to achieve - which is utter transparency."
