It has emerged this evening that Rehab made less than €10,000 in profits from sales of almost €4m on scratch card sales in 2010.
The figures were revealed in a Dáíl debate by Justice Minister Alan Shatter, who was defending his decision to wind up the charitable lotteries scheme.
He said charities have to ensure that their fundraising generates profits:
"My objective in phasing out [the scheme] is to wind down a scheme that I believe is no longer fit for purpose."
He said the CEO of Rehab had previously described the wind-down as a "shocking decision by Government" but said "I hope that after this evening, my approach to the scheme is now better understood."
