Reform Alliance to hold conference on January 25

New political grouping The Reform Alliance, which is due to be registered with the Standards in Public Office Commission in coming days, is holding a conference at the end of this month.

The meeting is expected to be be held on January 25 at the RDS in Dublin.

Member of the Reform Alliance, Wicklow TD Billy Timmins, says it's being called to highlight a number of key issues:

"It's our intention during the next week to register as a third party with SIPO but it isn't registered as a political party and I don't see it in the immediate future being registered as a political party," Deputy Timmins said.

"It's certainly not a conference to actually try and get a group of high-profile people into a room and see what the story is or what lies ahead… it's actually dealing with a number of important issues."

The Reform Alliance comprises five rebel Fine Gael TDs - Timmins, former European Affairs Minister Lucinda Creighton, Peter Mathews, Terence Flanagan, and Denis Naughten, and senators Paul Bradford and Fidelma Healy Eames. It already has a logo, a website and a Twitter account.

The seven all voted against the FG whip on the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill last year.
