Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van on Cork Street in Dublin before 8am today.

Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van on Cork Street in Dublin before 8am today.

It is understood a number of men who were believed to be in possession of a firearm threatened staff and demanded money, before fleeing the scene with a sum of money.

A member of the cash-in-transit staff received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 30s a short distance away. He is being detained at Kevin St garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A sum of money and a firearm were also recovered.

A van, believed to have been used in the robbery, was discovered on fire at Dolphin's Barn. Dublin Fire Brigade are at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
