Rabbitte rules out Labour/Fianna Fáil coalition

14/01/2007 - 15:49:41
The Labour leader, Pat Rabbitte said he would not consider a coalition with Fianna Fáil after the next election.

Speaking at the launch of the first of his party's pre-election 'Commitments for Change', Rabbitte said he is focused on changing both parties in government.

The latest poll shows Labour is up two points to 12 per cent, while Fianna Fáil was down three to 39 per cent.

But Pat Rabbitte is not entertaining any suggestion that he would go into power with Bertie Ahern's party:

"I am single-mindedly focused on a government of change," he said.

"When I say I want to change the government I want to change both parties in government. I don't just mean the Pds, I mean Fianna Fáil. They've had their opportunity. They've had unprecedented resources available to them. They haven't fixed the things that don't work. And the things that don't work are the things that the government are directly responsible."
