The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has said the college grants application system is now "largely up to date".

It follows delays with the new centralised 'SUSI' system that forced some students to have to wait months for maintenance grants.

Mr Quinn has promised a review of the system once all grant applications are dealt with and he said from tens of thousands of a backlog, they are nearly there.

Mr Quinn said: "I understand from Student Support Ireland that grants processing is largely up to date and that completed applications are now being dealt with as they come in.

"The majority of the 3,700 students currently awaiting payment will be paid within the next two weeks depending on their submission of bank account details."
