Quinn dismisses calls for higher private sector wages
A Cabinet minister has shrugged off calls for private sector wages to be increased after the Budget.
Ruairi Quinn said the Government needs to strike a balance between creating jobs and not running up any more debts.
He was responding to calls from SIPTU that private wages be increased if the Budget brings the deficit below the EU targets.
Minister Quinn claimed it is a dangerous path to take, saying: "I think we're in the middle of a recovery process, it's not easy, everybody is suffering to a certain extent.
"We want to try minimise the suffering as quickly as we can, and at the same time get back into a situation where the mountain of debt that we're piling up for the next generation is getting even higher."
