Public service jobs fall by 3,000 in three months

The number of people working in the public service dropped by up to 3,000 in the first three months of this year.

The figure is contained in a report due to be sent by the Government to the International Monetary Fund today.

It is the first update on employment numbers to be submitted to the IMF as part of the conditions of our bailout package.

Last year, the Fianna Fáil/Green Party coalition set a target of cutting numbers in the public service to 301,000 by the end of this year.
