The Psychiatric Nurses Association says many of its members at a Galway facility are "afraid to come into work".
Members of the group have today begun a work-to-rule at the Acute Psychiatric Unit of University College Hospital Galway, in response to concerns over staffing and safety.
They're demanding the HSE takes action after they recorded 36 assaults against staff since the start of the year.

Chairman of the West Galway Psychiatric Nurses Association, Damien Conlon, said: "One young nurse was picked up in a room, thrown out of that room across a corridor and against a fire hydrant.
"That nurse has been off sick since the first of January, effectively.
"There was a nother occasion where a male nurse was punched so hard that his teeth perforated his tongue."
