Protest to call for ban on sulkie racing
A protest outside the Department of Transport today will called for sulkie racing to be banned.
The practice involves harness-racing a horse and trap and is becoming more common on Irish roads.
Bernie Wright of the Alliance for Animal Rights said it is a dangerous for road users and has been fatal for some horses.
"It seems to be getting increasingly worse as regards accidents and reports we're getting, especially on that was highly documented there of a horse being driven into the back of a parked car and then being left on the road with a broken neck," she said.
"We've had a lot of other reports, and the more I go into this the more we feel it's really horrendous for horses to be involved in this."
