Property-tax limits to be clarified in Bill today

New legislation to give effect to the measures announced in last December's Budget will be published today.

The Finance Bill will include a range of supports for the small business sector, as well as measures to tackle tax evasion.

The legislation will be accompanied by a separate Bill on the property tax.

Chief business correspondent with the Irish Times, Arthur Beesley said people living in local authority housing would not be hit as hard by the tax as previously thought.

"I understand all local authority and housing-association properties will automatically go into the first bracket...for properties valued up to €100,000, so there will be something of a reprieve for people who own houses which are in excess of those values and which are local-authority or housing association houses," he said.
