Pregnant woman in hospital after Dublin carjacking

A heavily pregnant woman is being treated in hospital after she was injured in a carjacking in Dublin today.

A man in his 20s has been arrested for questioning in connection with the incident.

At around 3pm a couple parked their car on Hill Street near Dublin's Mountjoy square and as the man went to a parking meter the car was hijacked with his wife, who is seven and a half months pregnant, in the passenger seat.

The woman, who is in her 30s, sustained what are believed to be minor injuries and it is understood the carjacker may have attempted to push her from the car.

A garda patrol car spotted the vehicle and pursued it. The car was later abandoned on nearby Sean McDermott Street.

Gardaí arrested a man armed with a blood filled syringe and he was taken to Store Street Garda Station for questioning.

The woman who was in the car was taken to the Rotonda hospital to be treated and is being kept under observation.

Gardaí in Store Street are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them on 01-6668000.
