Cork University Hospital

Gardaí in Cork are investigating after the remains of a newborn baby were found at a house in the city.

The body was found in a bin yesterday afternoon.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out by assistant State pathologist Margaret Bolster later at Cork University Hospital, which will determine the course of the investigation.

The Irish Examiner reports that the girl’s mother – who is aged in her 20s - presented herself to gardaí yesterday, saying she had given birth to the child a few days previously.
