Post-mortem due on man killed in Dublin city centre bus incident

A post-mortem examination will take place on the body of a man killed by a bus following a suspected roadside altercation.

As gardaí begin examining CCTV of the incident in Dublin city, witnesses have been urged to come forward.

The collision happened around 5.40pm yesterday at the busy junction of Dawson Street and Nassau Street.

It is understood that onlookers saw two men arguing near the junction just before the incident.

The victim, in his late 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and no one else was injured.

A Garda forensic examination of the scene was launched.

A Dublin Bus inspector was at the scene, helping gardaí with their inquiries and the driver of the bus also gave a statement.

CCTV from the bus will be used to establish the circumstances of the collision.

Rush-hour traffic ground to a halt and Dublin Bus was forced to divert services away from the area.

A spokesman said later that more than a dozen routes were delayed. The bus was the 145 to Heuston railway station.

Dublin Bus will run a separate inquiry alongside the Garda investigation.

Gardaí at Pearse Street have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
