Polls closed in local and European elections

Voting in the Local and European elections has now closed.

10pm is the official cut-off time for the public to decide who they want to run their local Councils for the next five years.

The country has also been deciding on 11 MEPs that will be sent to represent us in the European Parliament, while voters in Dublin West and Longford-Westmeath have been choosing a new TD.

Counting of the votes in the local and by-elections will begin tomorrow morning while counting in the European Elections will get underway on Sunday morning.

The overall turnout is expected to be around 50%, but could reach 58% – roughly the same as the last vote in 2009.
