A new opinion poll shows that more than three quarters of people support same sex marriage.
It's the same level as a previous survey in November.
A RED C poll conducted for RTE Prime Time and the Sunday Business Post shows that if a referendum was held tomorrow, 76% of adults would support same sex marriage rights, 19% are against and 5% say they don't know.
80% of respondents think people in same sex relationships should have the same rights as traditional families.
Almost half, 49% believe in equal rights for gay people but say they have some reservations about same sex marriage.
When it comes to the issue of adoption by gay couples, the poll found 59% have no reservations about it, and 41% believe people who oppose same sex marriage rights are homophobic.
The poll was conducted on over 1,000 adults between Monday and Wednesday of this week.
