Policewoman's mobile falls into dissidents' hands

08/02/2012 - 11:12:46
A policewoman's lost mobile phone has fallen into the hands of dissident republicans in West Belfast.

The phone contained hundreds of photographs and operational details. It has been handed over to the Irish News newspaper by Oglaigh na hEireann.

The newspaper says the phone was lost during an arrest in West Belfast more than a year ago. It contained photographs of the officer and her colleagues on and off duty.

The pictures have be reproduced in the Irish News today, but have been pixelated. The paper said it published them to highlight the seriousness of the security breach.

The mobile is also understood to have contained text messages revealing the officer's movements, working hours and family commitments. It is understood she has a young daughter.

Using a recognised code word, the group said the officer had been monitored and a decision made not to target her.
