Plain-clothes Gardaí patrol Grafton St to catch Christmas crooks

Jewellers and high-end boutiques in the Grafton St area have been exercising extra caution over the Christmas shopping period.

An initiative led by the detective untit at Pearse St Garda Station has seen armed plain clothes Gardai patrolling Grafton St to prevent raids.

The Evening Herald reports that with the thousands of last minute shoppers set to arrive in the capital and €550m expected to be spent, measures had to be put in place.

In the past week, Gardai have made arrests in three armed robberies that have occurred in Dublin city centre.
