Dublin Zoo is welcoming the birth of two meerkat pups.

The female pups join the mob (official word, that) of 16 meerkats in their habitat.

Although the pups were born at the end of May, the parents kept the young hidden in burrows for the first few weeks, as is typical behaviour for meerkats.

The latest additions have 12 brothers and sisters.

Meerkats first arrived at the zoo three years ago.

Meerkats are small mammals belonging to the mongoose family. They're fair hunters too - see them take on scorpions in this clip.

Sure they're cute, but they're no red pandas are they? Dublin Zoo tells us that red pandas are in fact Ireland's favourite zoo animal.
