The Irish-American philantrophist Chuck Feeney has this afternoon been awarded an honorary doctorate of Laws by the Universities of Ireland North and South.

The Irish-American philantrophist Chuck Feeney has this afternoon been awarded an honorary doctorate of Laws by the Universities of Ireland North and South.

It has being given to honour his contribution to higher education on both sides of the border.

Feeney and his company Atlantic Philanthropies have donated more than €800m to Ireland's higher education institutions over the past 20 years.

It is the first time that all universities on the island of Ireland have come together to confer their highest award to an individual.
