Up to 400 new jobs are on the way at a global pharmaceutical company in Dublin.

Bristol Myers Squibb, which already employs around 600 people here, is expanding its manufacturing plant at Cruiserath in Dublin 15

A thousand jobs will also be created during the construction phase at the biological medical company, expected to be completed in 2018.

Tánaiste Joan Burton says today's announcement highlights Ireland's strong performance in the pharmaceutical sector.

She said: "It's very much about confidence in the Irish economy.

"Also in the context of the pharmaceutical industry over the last number of years, it's very good to see a major pharmaceutical company committing a very serious investment in Ireland."
