Petrol prices 'should fall in the next week'

Petrol prices are expected to fall in the next week or so, according to Conor Faughnan of AA Ireland.

Prices at the pumps have stabilised during the past month, according to AA Ireland's latest fuel price survey.

Petrol now costs on average, 162 cent per litre - down 0.1 cent since March.

The price of diesel fell more sharply - down 2.7 cent to an average of 153.8 cent per litre.

Declining oil prices on world markets and the strength of the euro against the US dollar are said to be contributing factors to the small drop in fuel prices.

"We're expecting prices to fall by perhaps another 2c per litre over the next week to ten days," said Mr Faughnan.

"It's been a bit of a rollercoaster and mostly prices have gone yup over the last 12 months or so, so I guess it's a question of being thankful for small mercies."
