Peru two due to be sentenced today

Michaela McCollum and Melissa Reid are due to be sentenced today for trying to smuggle cocaine out of Peru.

The two women, who are from Dungannon in Co Tyrone and Glasgow in Scotland, pled guilty to smuggling over €1.5m worth of the drug in September.

The pair, aged 20, face a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

They initially claimed they were kidnapped and forced to board a flight from Lima to Spain with cocaine hidden in their luggage, but later admitted their role.

They are due in court at approximately 3pm Irish time.
