A casualty was winched to safety this morning by the Irish Coastguard helicopter on Dollymount Strand in Dublin.

Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116, Howth Coast Guard, Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat and Gardaí were tasked to attend after a person contacted emergency services at around 9am expressing concern for someone who was in the water.

The helicopter winchman was lowered into the water and he successfully brought the casualty aboard and the helicopter proceeded to Beaumont Hospital.

Tom Byrne, Station officer with the Irish Coast Guard, said the casualty was unconscious and suffering from severe hypothermia when they pulled him from the water.

"We got a call from the gardaí so we immediately tasked the Dun Laoghaire inshore lifeboat, the Howth Coast Guard and the rescue helicopter from Dublin Airport," Mr Byrne said.

"The three units proceeded and at about 9.30am Rescue 116 had a visual on the casualty.

"They took him on board and took him to Beaumount Hospital."
