Gardaí in Cork are investigating an aggravated burglary during which a pensioner was injured.

It happened at around 3am this morning in Farranree.

An intruder entered the house through a window and demanded money from the elderly occupant, fleeing with a sum of cash.

The man in his 70s was injured and taken to the Mercy Hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Gardaí at Watercourse Road are investigating.
