The scene of a fatal road accident was discovered by a passing motorist in Co Limerick this morning.

The victim, aged in his mid 30s and the sole occupant of the car, was fatally injured.

His vehicle was discovered by a passing motorist near Coolshine, on the Caherconlish and Herbertstown Road, at around 5.30am this morning.

The motorist immediately notified emergency services.

The victim's body has since been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick.

The road was closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination but has since re-opened.

Gardaí in Roxboro Road are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have been on that stretch of road between midnight and 5.30am this morning to contact them in Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214340, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
