Parties gather before Dáil reconvenes

The Labour parliamentary party will gather for a two-day think-in today for the first time under the leadership of Joan Burton.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil will also work out its strategy before the return of the Dáil on Wednesday as Sinn Féin continues its lead over them in polls.

Wexford is the venue for today and tomorrow for Labour, as the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) gathers for the first time in such a forum under Tánaiste Joan Burton.

Like Fine Gael, the party is likely to put itself on effective election footing.

They will discuss priorities for the budget, mainly how to give something back to people next month, and focus on the effective end of austerity.

However, on their minds will be the weekend RED C opinion poll showing the party just up one point to 8% under Joan Burton's leadership.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil heads to Roscommon and that poll will be on their minds too as Sinn féin continue to be well clear of them as the country's second most popular party.

They have to work on a strategy for the Dáil term and deal with criticism from former minister Mary Hanafin who described many of the front bench as "anonymous".
