Part of the roof of Kent train station in Cork city has collapsed injuring a woman.

An eyewitness says part of roof on the concourse collapsed on to the commuter train to Cobh.

Irish Rail said two other passengers who were on the platform at the time the roof collapsed were treated at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

Iarnród Éireann has confirmed the incident at Kent Station which they say is closed at the moment due to the partial collapse of the roof at platform 1 and 2, from which commuter trains to Cobh and Midleton operate.

They said it collapsed at around 3pm and came down on a train which was not in service, but was at the platform at the time.

They said: "Emergency services are at the scene, and it is understood that one customer has been injured, although thankfully the injuries are not life threatening. While there were high winds and rain in the area at the time, the cause of the incident is not known at this time, and will be the subject of a full investigation.

"Cork to Cobh/Midleton services are temporarily suspended, and Dublin/Cork services are operating between Dublin and Mallow only."
