Parents warned over dangers of fireworks this Halloween

Children's Minister James Reilly is appealing to parents to be careful with fireworks this Halloween.

Each year hundreds of children are admitted to hospitals with injuries from Halloween fireworks.

Minister Reilly says parents should ensure their children never handle fireworks.

"This is not about enforcement - this is about informing parents of the dangers that their children face," he said.

"They want their kids to have a good time, we all understand that - but they need to understand the dangers around this as well".

"Sometimes, we perhaps are not as aware as we should be, and that's why both myself and the Minister for Justice are here today to highlight the issues for parents."
