Parent's representative calls on Reilly to take action on children's hospital

Health Minister Dr James Reilly has been told that he needs to make a decision on where build the new National Children's Hospital.

It comes eight months since An Bord Pleanála turned down an application to build the facility at the Mater site in Dublin city centre, and follows comments from the Master of the Rotunda hospital on the issue.

Doctor Sam Coulter Smith has expressed concern that the location of the hospital is becoming a political decision, rather than a medical one.

Linda Dillon, a parent's representative on the hospital's development board, said that Minister Reilly needs to be more decisive on the issue.

"At this point in time, I suppose he had to take the time to look at it," she said.

"He's had more than enough time now, in my opinion, to look at it.

"He needs to get on and build this hospital and right this moment, the only place that they’re going to deliver this hospital in any timely fashion is at the Mater site, there is no doubt in my mind about that."
