The management of the penalty points system and outsourcing of safety cameras will top the agenda at this mornings meeting of the Public Accounts Committee.
The Secretary General at the Department of Transport and representatives from the Road Safety Authority will appear before the PAC.
The committee is also set to examine the Department of Transport's accounts for 2012, with payments totalling €1.1bn made on road improvements and maintenance.
The Chairman of the Committee, Fianna Fail TD John McGuinness, said they want to find out how much money is needed to maintain the current national road network and what priority projects are listed between now and 2016.
Representatives from the Road Safety Authority will also face questions about the outsourcing of safety cameras, around the effectiveness and management of the cameras to date.
Retired Chief Superintendent John O’Brien, who made a submission to the committee, is also due to attend.
