O'Sullivan: Junior Cycle reform will go ahead despite ASTI opposition

The Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan has reiterated her stance on training for the new Junior Cert, saying it will go ahead despite opposition from some teachers.

The controversial reform of the Junior Cycle has been accepted by the Teachers Union of Ireland, but rejected by the ASTI.

Minister Jan O'Sullivan has already said she is happy to offer clarity to the ASTI on any issues, but that the details are not open to any further negotiations.

Speaking to Live 95, Minister O'Sullivan said: "We will be offering training to the teachers who will come to it.

"I know the ASTI is seeking further clarification and we're happy to provide that, but we won't be rowing back in any way on the plans for the reform of the Junior Cycle. The training will be going ahead."
