Gardaí are investigating the cause of a fatal house fire in Dublin.

One person was killed in the blaze in Dalkey, which it is understood broke out shortly after midnight.

Emergency services were alerted to this fire at 12.30am, at the house on Ulverton Road.

Five units of the fire brigade fought the blaze for several hours, however the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their remains will be examined this morning, and a post mortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, and the scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.

Ulverton Road has been closed to traffic until further notice.
