O'Leary: No future for regional airports
16/07/2008 - 17:53:04The head of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, has declared that there is no future for regional airports in this country.
Speaking before the Oireachtas Transport Committee, Mr O'Leary said Ireland is sufficiently served by Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports and that Kerry is also a good base.
But he said there is "absolutely" no future for Donegal, Waterford, Gorey and Sligo airports, and that Knock is "pretty flaky".
Mr O'Leary said regional airports are only surviving because of massive subsidies, and he questioned why Ryanair has to pay some of these subsidies in the current economic climate.
