Airfield Gardens announces 30 redundancies

Thirty people are to lose their jobs at Airfield Gardens in Dundrum in Dublin with the closure of the facility for refurbishment works.

The urban farm and gardens will close its doors to members of the public on October 31 and is likely to stay closed for 18 months with the facility reopening for Spring 2013.

The 30 redundancies include full-time, part-time and contract employees and a consultation process between management and staff is now underway.

The refurbishment project received full planning permission in July 2010 and will include new central farm buildings, a new three-acre horticultural experience with display gardens, vegetable gardens and kitchen gardens.
