Taoiseach expected 'some property-tax letters to be sent in error'

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said some mistakes were expected in sending out property-tax demand letters. It is reported that a number of children have received the letters.
Mr Kenny said such errors were to be expected and added that Revenue expects a high uptake for the tax.
The Taoiseach said: "I think it is understood that there would be some letters that would be sent out in error, because of duplication of names and so on.
"Revenue themselves have set out their stall that they expect a very high adherence rate in terms of the payment of the property tax.
"The Government intention is to get to 80% of the money being used for local services."
Earlier, the Taoiseach said the inclusion of thousands of homes in unfinished housing estates on the property tax eligibility list is accurate and fair.
The Department of the Environment has said only 5,000 houses in ghost estates will be exempt from the tax.
That is down from 43,000 which did not have to pay the household charge last year.
