Wicklow Labour councillor in quit threat over water meter charges

A Labour councillor in Wicklow is vowing to leave his party if the Government proceeds with its plan to impose the cost of water meters on homeowners, it has been reported.
Rathdrum-based Councillor Jimmy O'Shaughnessy has also called for Labour to cut themselves free from Fine Gael.
"This has come right out of the blue and was not even discussed in the Cabinet," news site wicklownews.net reported Cllr O'Shaughnessy as saying.
"This is not what the Labour Party stand for.
"We are going to end up the very same as the Green party and will never be in Government again."
In comments posted on his
Facebook page over the weekend Cllr O'Shaughnessy said he thought it was time for the Labour Party "to say bye-bye to Enda".
"If the labour party allow this i will not be in the party (sic)," Cllr O'Shaughnessy said in online exchanges.
"Between the household charges and now the water charges where do they think people are going to get the money?" he asked.
Cllr Shaughnessy wrote that it was "time for all labour party cllrs and T D and members of seanad eireann to say we have enough of this blue shite (sic)."
