Amount held in savings jumps by €637m


New estimates show household savings in Ireland jumped by €637m last year, with a total of almost €12.9bn being held in savings.

The Central Statistics Office figures say gross disposable income also fell slightly in the 12-month period, from €89.2bn in 2010 to €88.8bn in 2011.

In the same period, household consumption expenditure fell by €945m (-1.2%) from €79.3bn to €78.4bn.
