FF proposes emergency legislation to tackle fuel prices

Fianna Fáil wants a VAT and excise duty reduction on fuel prices to help hard-pressed drivers.

The party will propose emergency legislation in the Dáil later to call for a 5c per litre cut in the price of diesel and petrol - a 4c reduction in excise duty and a consequent 1c reduction in VAT.

The Dáil is set to vote on the Motorist Emergency Relief Bill tomorrow.

Fianna Fail's transport spokesperson Timmy Dooley said: "Taxes have to be raised, but there is a disproportionate burden on the motorist as a result of what has happened in international oil prices."
