Female cyclist dies in Cork road accident

A female cyclist has died after a road traffic accident in Cork this afternoon.
The woman was cycling on the Bandon Road on the western outskirts of the city when her bicycle and a car were in collision just after 5pm.
The accident happened on the city side of the Viaduct.
The woman was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital but was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car was also taken to CUH where he is being treated for shock.
The inbound lane of the dual carriageway is closed for an examination by garda forensic road traffic collision investigators.
Gardaí urged witnesses to the accident to contact either Togher (021 494 7120) or Bishopstown (021 434 4097) garda stations.
