O'Flynn eliminated after Count 10 in Ireland South

Independent candidate and Ballyhea Says No campaigner Diarmuid O'Flynn has been eliminated after the 10th count in the Ireland South European election constituency.

Fine Gael candidate and sitting MEP Sean Kelly still leads on 106,068 votes.

He is followed by party colleagues Deirdre Clune on 64,889 and Simon Harris 63,536. Fianna Fáil’s Kieran Hartley is on 59,722.

Some observers credited the female vote for pushing Clune out in front in the race for the final seat.

She received 2,098 more transfers from Labour's Phil Prendergast than party rival Harris, who now trails her by 1,353 votes.

Fianna Fáil's Hartley is now 3,814 votes behind Harris and is on course to be eliminated next - despite party colleague Brian Crowley topping the poll with a massive majority.

Hartley will need over 5,000 transfers from Independent Donal O' Flynn if he is to avoid elimination.

Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly remains on course to take the third seat, but is not likely to be elected for a number of hours yet.
